In search of orchids

The Tuesday Run was full of surprises. These are bee orchids in Trowbarrow Quarry Nature Reserve. A view of the quarry in extras.  The sign said there would be fly orchids too but we couldn't find any. Then we trotted off to look for lady's slipper orchids in Gait Barrow Nature Reserve.  The plants were alive but not flowering, for the second year running. They've been brought here from the Yorkshire Dales and are tended by enthusiasts, one of whom showed us where they were and told us  all about them.  Maybe they don't really like being further west. We saw loads of common spotted orchids (another extra) which were beautiful but not of course not as exotic  as the bee ones
