Wild Wednesday: Duckies

The female mallard duck that made her nest down in the water meadows has hatched her eggs now - she currently has two ducklings.  There were probably more originally but there is a heron's nest not too far away and I suspect that that the other ducklings were predated.  She was certainly doing her very best to keep these two safe, as you can see.

Its certainly all going on at the water meadows.  As you can see from the extra this female emperor dragonfly was either ovipositing or admiring her reflection.  I suspect it was the former.
