Uphill climb

There was a caution sign on the road down to the dock at Xwaaqw'um so of course I had to go down to see what was happening. There was a machine down on the beach, making its way back (see extra). I watched the operator manoeuvre the machine back up the fairly steep hill to get back on the road. Took him a few moves, using the bucket and plow to balance, and a couple of times, the machine slid backwards. I was impressed with his skill and told him so when he finally got up on the road and stopped to let me go by.  Apparently the old cable for telephone is going to be replaced by fibre optic cable. I didn't even know there was a telephone cable down there.
I had decided to walk down Xwaaqw'um because I knew I'd be mostly in the shade on a hot morning. It is a wee bit cooler today but it's heating up again, and it's supposed to feel like 35 degrees on the weekend. Not looking forward to that!
Today I only found 3 caterpillars but plenty of cocoons - 203 to be exact! I didn't think I'd find many so started counting then couldn't stop. I'm glad that the caterpillars have mostly disappeared and I think that should mean that I won't find many more cocoons. I can see plenty of them in places I can't reach - and that frustrates me!  Ha! Can't get them all, I guess.
