‘Crossing The Bar’
Crossing The Bar’, taken from a Tennyson poem is the term used when a sailor, particularly from the Royal Navy, has passed away. So tonight, some fifteen months since we last met on 24 February 2020 the Falmouth Branch of the Royal Naval Association met again. Limited to thirty we started with a Memorial Service to the six Shipmates who have ‘Crossed The Bar’ since last we met.
Following the service they were sent on their way with the traditional tot of Pussers Rum and the toast; “Absent Friends”.
We then had an abbreviated meeting before renewing old friendships over a buffet and a couple of beers.
It’s good to be back
