From West to East.
Left Lochinver just before 9.00 am and headed across country, via coffee by the loch in Lairg, over to the East coast of Sutherland. Glorious weather all the way and we saw some Red Kites en route.
Stopped for a wander around the pretty little town of Brora seen here.
From there we headed along the coast to Inverness and the A9!
We stopped for a cuppa in Blair Athol, a nice little spot much quieter than the nearby House of Bruar which I’d always manic but useful for toilers! It was very warm and starting to feel quite muggy.
We are now across the border, just, in Berwick upon Tweed. Found a good place to eat and have had a nice twilight walk around the ramparts ( more of that later). A fascinating town with some lovely Georgian buildings. As well,as the walk around the walls there is a Lowry trail. I didn't know about the connection with the artist but he apparently visited often between the mud 1930’s and a year before his death. The trail showed some of his paintings in the location that he painted them. He aspired to own a house by the walls but never got one instead he always stayed at the Castle Hotel which is where we are staying!
Our last night, we’ve had a great holiday, hope this good weather lasts for the family.
