I don't know why I didn't mention it at the time, but the sparrows in yesterday's image were actually Tree Sparrows, which are much rarer than House Sparrows. They like to build nests in holes in trees, so they had found what was to them - a hole in a tree. We tend to take it for granted that we have Tree Sparrows, when there are many areas, especially in the North, where there are very few. Thank you to ChrisF for making the identification. Interesting that on this day last year I blipped a Tree Sparrow.
