Our beautiful hills

This afternoon, after spotting a post like this (but better) on the Pentland Users fb group, I headed over to the Leadburn Community Woodland. Been meaning to take a look for ages and it was glorious. So many wild flowers and insect life especially around the ponds.

This evening I've been rescuing a moorhen check that seems to have found itself stranded in our back garden somehow. It's now out of harms way from cats/dogs/foxes/rats etc in a cardboard box with a heated pillow and water and food for the evening. If it's still OK in the morning the SSPCA will be able to take over. Sadly the cat discovered it at the same time as I did and made a grab for it. Have washed the wound and it doesn't look too bad. I've been told they're a lot more hardy than other baby birds so fingers crossed. Just hope the poor thing settles down soon, it's quite vocal at the moment otherwise we may not be having the best sleep.
