Euros
We are well into the Euro tournament that remains, confusingly, called Euro2020. It’s a different kind of tournament because many counties are playing host. The Netherlands, Azerbaijan, Romania, Hungary, Denmark, Scotland, England, Germany, Italy, Russia and Spain are all hosting games.
That means we can count England and Scotland as host nations. The home nations were not playing today but people were clearing up after last night’s England-Scotland derby. There’s quite a lot of online discussion about the wisdom of the central London supporter crowds while we are still, technically, in a pandemic. Right now I think people’s sense of risk varies quite widely, somewhat dependant on if they have been vaccinated or not. However, the Euro 2020 volunteers are back out in town supporting the event and helping guide people to places to watch the matches. The scheme was planned before the pandemic when a lot of visitors were expected for the games being played at Wembley. Sadly, there are a lot fewer people around than planned. You’ll see this logo on armies of people wearing pale blue volunteer t-shirts around town.
