Worst statue?
We met Phil at Soho Square this afternoon for a history walk around Soho. It was a lovely walk looking at for clues of the past. Some of the places were included in some of the other tours we have done but many places were new. We were introduced to coffee at Bar Italia. I am not sure why we have never done it considering that it’s a London institution.
Later, we were in Golden Square looking at the statue of George II which some consider to be the worst statue in London. It really looks to me that somebody had scrawled glasses on his face but, apparently, it’s the statue.
We left Phil and walked to the South Bank. Before heading into the Grace Jones concert in The Royal Festival Hall we decided to grab some food and sat outside Giraffe. It was a bit windy but we managed to finish before the rain. In hindsight, my sneezes as it rained were a warning.
Grace Jones was a brilliant concert. The finale of the Meltdown Festival that she curated, it was a brilliant cross between art and music. She arrived singing on top of a contraption that allowed her dress to fill the stage; showed off her incredibly subtle physique and the hoola-hooped her way across the stage. She also came within a few feet of us perched on top of a security guard’s shoulders as she was carried around the auditorium. Not bad given she’s 74. Thoroughly entertaining!
