Exhausted

........ the bees are so very busy in our garden that we keep finding ones that have pushed themselves to the limit and can barely move. This one is sitting on a prong of our little garden fork tucking into some nice runny honey that I keep especially for this reason. He looks a bit tatty because he had just taken an accidental dip in the little saucer of water that I put out for them to drink from ...... he managed to stagger off the fork just as he was being lifted over the saucer. We fished him out and I blobbed a small drop of honey a couple of centimetres in front of him and he dived in immediately and ate quite a lot. Then he sat for a little while to dry off and recover his strength before flying off back the hypericum bush to get busy again ...... it’s so rewarding to see them recover like this and quite amazing that they work until they collapse and die rather than taking time to find sustenance.
