low perch

The blue jays in the little wooded area where I walk usually stay in the upper canopy. It seems their job is to harass hawks and owls that are hunting from up on high. But this morning I saw a jay swoop down and seemingly perch on top of the tall grass! When I got closer I could see that it had found a small dead snag in the grass. I like the way the sun was shining on the blue tail feathers.
