Seasonal Scottish meal
Now is the season of the silver darlings (herring) and new potatoes and spring cabbage with the herring covered with oatmeal and the new potatoes dressed with butter and oatmeal. Who could resist when the Arbroath fishman had herring on sale today. Not me: so I had more than my usual amount of white carbohydrates in today’s evening meal iwhich was served with a tomato and vinegar to bring out the taste of the herring. and was followed by allotment strawberries with an individual strawberry trifle as a treat.
