It has lovely flowers too!

As well as producing tubers that are addictive when new season and freshly harvested the potato produces beautiful flowers.
The potato arrived in the U.K. from Virginia, brought here by the colonists sent there in 1584 by Sir Walter Raleigh. It would not surprise me if he initially grew it for its flowers.
