‘Drowned’ Well

This blip was going to be a lovely beach photo taken as we arrived in Newlyn and went down to the sea with our daughter and the dog. However, since we arrived this afternoon . . . it has rained non-stop.

So:

St Petroc’s Well

On our way to Newlyn we stopped off at Bodmin, as Gordon needed a new cap, having lost yet another last week. He found what he wanted. And I made him buy two.

I had thought there were Holy Wells in Bodmin and I was right - there are four. We only went in search of one of them and had no time to find the apparently more impressive ones, even though we met a lady who told us exactly how to find them and a church and a ruined chapel and more. We need to return.

The Well is in the town’s Priory Park, near the football club, but hidden from view. Apparently the water level from the well is usually high and often covers the 17th century granite arch, although some people blame the flood protection work that has gone on for ‘drowning’ the well. Whatever the reason, only the top of the well was visible when we were there. It’s a nice peaceful spot anyway.

I will not go into the story of St Petroc now. We had a wet walk down to the lovely Wine Bar at the bottom of the road, then some of the party queued in the rain for fish and chips - excellent. Dry and sunny tomorrow hopefully.
