Without an ‘e’’

Bridgwater (without an ‘e’) is in Somerset, not far from Bristol, and is on the River Parrett. Until the river silted up, it was a busy port and here is the tidal basin of the river where ships could sail to and dock. It was once lined with warehouses, now mainly turned into apartments. The bridge in the distance is where lock gates open into the Bridgwater/Taunton Canal. For a long time this area was a hub of activity as an international trading port, but it eventually could not compete with near by deepwater docks and it closed for commercial activity in 1971.

So, why are we in Bridgwater? It makes a reasonable stopover on our way to Cornwall . . . and it was a Premier Inn bargain!
