Trees

In Maryland and many other states there are more rigorous requirements for state identification like drivers' licenses. Karen brought her passport and birth certificate to the Department of Motor Vehicles when getting her new license yesterday. Today she is having a rough day because she can't find them. We've all been there. You know it is in your house but you won't feel better until you find them. She went to check her car. There was a tree on top of it.

She does not own a Mercedes but she was parked next to this one. The Mercedes made a more interesting picture than her Honda though. In the background you can see where the limb used to be.

The tree limb fell on top of these cars and knocked down two limbs from the tree on the other side so they hit the cars too.  The picture I took from the front is so dense you can't even see her car is there.

I love trees.

When I was a kid I used to hide in a tree.

When I was teaching, one of my classes was on biomass. I did a survey to see how many students were bothered by the idea of growing and burning trees, as opposed to some other biomass, for fuel. It isn't logical, but a lot of us were bothered by the idea.

But this is the second time a limb from this tree has come down in less than a week. I thought of posting a picture of the holes left by woodpeckers. Based on all the holes the remaining tree has, in the area under that gaping tree wound, in my non-expert opinion, I think the tree has to go.

Good news - the cars are only scratched. Nothing is broken. Nothing is even dented.

Karen has now found her documents!

Extras:  me making new friends.
