I’m in Candie Gardens and both the upper and lower gardens are truly at their best. 
Through the gate and behind the wall on the other side of the road is Candie Cemetery which was originally intended for the great and good of St Peter Port. The old renegade Jean Allaire lies within. He was the great great grandfather of Sibyl Hathaway, Dame of Sark. Jean Allaire was at one time believed to be the richest man in Guernsey. He was a Privateer, holding a Letter of Marque from the monarch; but he had no morals and would happily raise a French flag and attack a British ship.
