Sheerness

This is the beach at Sheerness on the Isle of Sheppey. The words on the stepped promenade are from a poem written about a US Liberty ship, the Richard Montgomery, that sank off the coast here in 1942 with 1400 tons of high explosives on board. The wreck and its cargo are still there!
