Cooling down
The cows have the right idea.
Cooling down in the duck pond at the idyllic village of Nun Monkton.
A no-through-Road runs through the village which terminates at the confluence of the Rivers Nidd and Ouse.
The houses are grouped round the 20 acre village green, with duck pond and Maypole.
Such a typical English village scene. Just like it would have been years ago.
We walked through the lovely avenue of lime trees, and down to the river, where a ferry now goes across the river to Benningborough Hall on the other bank.
The ferry dates from the 12th Century, and after having closed for many years has now reopened, with the help of volunteers. At the moment only runs at the weekend.
( see extra). I love the new name. “ Bryan Ferry”!
After a walk round the village we went back to The Ship at Aldborough, sat in the shade of the orchard, and both enjoyed a very wholesome fish pie. Each portion looked big enough for two people, but we managed to finish them.
The afternoon spent by the river, under a shady tree, reading.
Perfect.
Temperatures up to 32C and a cloudless sky.
Far too hot in the sun, but perfect in the shade.
