Drive

Too hot to go out looking for exciting things to photograph today, so decided to take a shot of anything I could find in the house that could tenuously be linked to the British Grand Prix. I reckon this little wooden box fits the brief. Probably had it for over twenty years, and suspect it was a present from Mrs C, but she can’t remember where or when she got it. Anyway, it’s decorative and holds a random mix of guitar picks, window lock keys and stamps.
We did venture out briefly this morning for a coffee and to do some food shopping. Really not interested in the latter as I find this type of weather a real appetite suppressant and therefore not really bothered in planning meals.
Spent the afternoon watching the Grand Prix. I’ll leave it to others to argue about whether or not Hamilton received the correct penalty for colliding with Verstappen. A big accident and thankfully nobody seriously hurt. But I do understand the frustration felt by some people that there could not really have been a proper penalty applied as Hamilton went on to win the race. Or is it just that he’s such a good driver he was able to overcome that time penalty due to his innate skill? I’m sure the debate will continue until another, more contentious, incident occurs.
Switched over after the race just in time to see Mark Cavendish narrowly miss out on beating Eddie Mercx’s number of Tour de France stage victories. They remain tied on 34, so I hope Mark gets a ride in next year’s tour to give him opportunity to take the record outright.
Looking at the crowds who have watched the Tour all around France, and the record crowd packing the grandstands at Silverstone, it will be strange watching the Olympic athletes competing in empty stadiums next week. I’m guessing the number of Covid cases seen in England, France and Japan over the coming weeks will prove whether allowing spectators is right or wrong.
