Last year I had a small corncockle plant and was pleased to see how well the seeds that I collected grew so now have several plants. Ideally it would be nice to scatter their seed nearby among poppies to recreate a scene which was once fairly common. Corncockles (Agrostemma githago) used to be common in cornfields but were a problem when the seeds became mixed with the grain so spoiling the quality of flour. With improving agricultural techniques and herbicides it is very rare now in the wild and is more likely to be found in seeds sown as “wildflower mixtures”
