Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

By Carol

2021 — Tuesday with Tristan

“Pancakes?” was my question as I entered the kitchen this morning. Tristan responded that he loves pancakes. We had french toast yesterday and he said he “loves french toast.” I think we’re on a winning streak.

After breakfast we made our getaway from the house and stopped first at the Seniors Thrift Store here in Cayucos. Everything in the store is half off. The place was always a bargain; now it’s a double bargain.

Then we drove to the Cayucos Library. I found some free magazines, “Belle Grace: Life’s a Beautiful Journey,” and the price on the barcode is $19.99 U.S. Really? Free, I got them for free! Two issues. I also bought a beautiful paper book for $1.00. “Four Seasons in Five Senses” by David Mas Masumoto, whose family has an organic farm in Del Rey, California, which is near Fresno, which is 2 1/2 to 3 hours east of Cayucos. He has “the voice of a poet and the eye of a farmer.” This will be a good read.

Meanwhile somewhere else in the library Tristan gathered up a stack of books that is almost as tall as he is; he is a voracious reader. Mr. Fun grabbed a few things too.

As the library closed at 1:00 for a 1/2 hour lunch break we exited and drove to the Pizza Port in Morro Bay. Until 2:00 p.m. they sell pizza by the slice; we were there at 1:30; we each had a piece of pizza and then we decided we’d each have one more slice; however, because it was almost 2:00, the clerk put two slices on each of our plates. As we waddled back to our car to continue our Tuesday adventure, I announced, “I won’t be cooking dinner tonight.” Tristan and Mr. Fun both thought that was a good idea.

Next we stopped at the Morro Bay Library because two libraries per day is better than one. Mr. Fun needed to upload some software to his laptop, so we spent about an hour getting that completed. My photo was captured during that portion of our day.

Then a stop at the Dollar Store. I stayed in the car and made the mistake of letting Tristan and Mr. Fun both go inside. They returned with everything that tickled their fancy.

I injected the thought then that we needed to get back to the house to check on the pups; we were instantly rocketing north on the highway toward Cayucos. The pups were elated to see us.

We all settled down for a long July evening with the new found treasures of our day. Mr. Fun cooked a bowl of Top Ramon (purchased at the Dollar Store) for he and Tristan and then took a nap while Tristan quietly read. Mid-evening I mixed a chocolate cake, poured it into two round cake pans, and an hour or so later, the three of us were savoring homemade dessert and deciding that was this day’s finale.

Tuesday is now in our history book!
Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
and Chloe & Mitzi too!
and great-grandson Tristan
