My 'boys'
Usha Gap, backblip 5
Up early this morning to drive down to Skipton to meet Tom, my son, at the station. We were early, and his train was delayed, so we had time for a wander round the town, which was thronging on a gloriously sunny day.
Very good to see Tom again! MrM drove us to Scar House Reservoir (extra) in Nidderdale, and after sampling the ice creams from the cafe we spent a very pleasant afternoon walking round Scar House and Angram reservoirs. Not particularly long (about 11km), and mostly flat, but once again I struggled in the heat, which didn't seem to affect MrM or Tom in the least. (Though Tom has age on his side!)
Both reservoirs were constructed by Bradford Corporation (Angram completed in 1918 and Scar House in 1936) to supply water to Bradford via the 32-mile long Nidderdale Aqueduct, which is mostly underground and transmits water by gravity.
Hungry after our walk, MrM drove us to Otley for fish & chips from the chippie by the bridge. (Recommended!) Sadly, it was then time to drop off Tom in Leeds for his train home, and for MrM and I to head back to the campsite.
