Leafcutter Bee
Another lovely day out there which gave us time to chop back the hardy geraniums, alchemille mollis and aquilegia and pull up the remaining foxgloves. This probably should have been done a while ago, but the bees have really been enjoying the last of the flowers. Whilst we were having a rest and doing another Big Butterfly Count, my husband noticed a couple of bees buzzing around the bee hotel. We've had 8 cells bunged up with mud or similar for months now, but this was different, the bee was coming and going a lot and then staying at the entrance doing circuits of the end. I couldn't work out what it was doing until I saw it sitting on top of the hotel with a leaf(extra). So, I am deducing that this is a leafcutter bee. I watched for a while and tried to get some shots of it doing its thing without disturbing it too much.
In Olympic News, it's been a bit of a gold rush for Team GB. 3 Golds and 2 silver medals is what we ended up with. First it was Silver for Alex Yee in the Triathlon which we stayed up for. Then it was Gold in the pool for Adam Peaty - if ever there was a nailed on gold, this was it and we just happened to be awake at 3am so watched this too. Then in the morning Tom Daley and Matty Lee won Gold in the diving - 4th time lucky for Tom. And then within 20 minutes we'd won another Gold in the Mountain Biking with Tom Pidcock. And we just missed out on a final gold this afternoon with Lauren Williams in the Taekwondo. She ended with a silver.
Number of GB Medals today = 3G, 2S
Cumulative Medals = 3G, 3S, 1B (5th in the medal table)
