Juvenile Red Kite
Well, it’s been an interesting day……..
After our wonderful family weekend, - and thank you so much for all your lovely comments - it’s now a case facing up to the real business of our trip down south: my long-awaited medical appointment. Having been referred in May 2020 to the specialist St Mark’s hospital, it’s been an ongoing battle with my local hospital to just complete the admin. So finally I get to see the colorectal specialist some 14 months later. It’s my third hospital in less than two weeks; maybe I should start to review my experiences.
He’s absolutely lovely - listens, sympathises, understands. But in the end he confirms what I have feared, and - deep down - known. My temporary colostomy will, in all probability, become permanent, and subject to some further exploration under anaesthetic, I’m likely to face some other major surgery. It’s not the best of news, but at least it’s progress and hopefully an end to the debilitating cycle of infections.
Back from the hustle and congestion of west London, Amersham feels like an oasis. We find a cafe for a much needed coffee and cake, and return to our hotel. The juvenile (I think) red kite we’ve heard wailing from the tree yesterday is still there. I love these birds, and think this is the first time I’ve seen one perching high up in a tree rather than soaring through the air - it obviously has to be today’s blip. And there’s a collage of Amersham scenes as an extra.
And to finish the day, we enjoy a delicious al fresco meal at the local Italian restaurant - with wine of course!
