Candle
If this candle were your light
I would burn it bright and burn it long
In every chamber that loves your tears and holds your fears
If this candle were your warmth
I would place it on a window sill
To kill the wind of winter's chill
If this candle were your memories
I would anchor it in a chamber where
All rooms lead to one, yet none are bare
Where childhood images dress the scene
And lovers' requests are halcyon dreams
If this candle were love divine
I would preach its gospel, show all its sign
And follow it till its breath exhaled
Crucified by prejudice of those depraved
Its embers would rise again,
Like a phoenix from the flame.
For as this love stands tall to protect you
So too does this candle seek to hold you,
Safe from days lonely and hard
And times when even the bravest smile is sad
If this candle were my flame
Take its light, take its warmth
Hold its memory and make your dawn
Live your life and love it true
And let this flame be there for you
