Rust In Peace...

.. Or rust in pieces...

A big day in the hunt for a classic Jaguar. We were drawn in by the glossy photos, online, of this stunning looking car. 1998 XK8, 4 litre automatic, low mileage and full service history. On the surface, an exciting opportunity to buy in to the classic car market. Oh how we built our hopes up. Genuine excitement at the prospect of owning a Jag.
Then the reality. We had driven 100 miles, down through the glorious Brecon Beacons and out to the port area near Cardiff.
The seller declined to get the car up on ramps, declined to let us have a test drive because it had no Mot... Well, what to do. He seemed nervous when I asked for a torch. He didn't like it when I pointed out the rust under the wheel arches (that's not rust, that's just discolouration where moisture has got in) and he argued with me when I pointed out orange peel paint on the off side wing (Extra) and on top of the passenger side windscreen pillar. The whole car has had a respray he tried to say. He had no comment to explain the shreds of fibre glass stuck to the top of the radiator, or why the chrome trim on the windows had been spray painted black. Or the blue over spray on the engine bay sound dampening. The list goes on. We declined to make an offer and were glad to get away with nothing more than dirt on my trousers and a great sense of relief that we had a lucky escape. I am not an expert in used cars but I do love YouTube videos and tutorials
The search goes on, we are determined we will get the car of our dreams. We won't rust rest until we do.

Thanks so much for stars and comments on my blip of Hollie two days ago and the whirly gig  yesterday. Such a nice bunch of people!
