What, no eruption?

Woke to another greyish day and so decided to head to the volcano. This was the main reason we have come as seeing an active volcano is the top of my bucket list.
We arrived early and there were only a few other people heading up. Quite a hike to the top of the hill but, when we got there, the volcano was only showing a bit of wispy smoke and clearly wasn't active. A bit (a lot) disappointed but we made the best of it and walked down to the lava fields where you could see glimpses of red lava under the crust, more than enough to toast the marshmallows we had brought with us. Amazing to think, when you see the extent of the lava flow, that this volcano didn't exist a few months ago. We hung around for a while in the hope of some more dramatic activity but eventually gave up and headed to see some hot springs and boiling mud.
