Still as a Mill Pond

As I take this picture I'm standing on a dam looking upstream to the miller's house, across the mill pond. Turning around I took a second picture, looking downstream to the water wheel (extra).
This is part of Trolldalen (Troll Dale), a narrow valley, short and steep.  This made it an ideal place to use water power for the various needs of the linen industry from the late 1700's to the early 1900's.
The stream is actually quite small but by building a dam to create this pool there was always water available to power the machinery in the mill when required. Another, much bigger pool was created behind a dam at the top of the valley, providing even more reserve capacity.  Nowadays it's a place to swim.
Nowadays, at the base of the valley there is a bakery and cafe to power the visitors. Plenty of cakes and sandwiches served with delicious coffee.  This was the first stop on the second day of our tour around this area with Lasse and Annika as our guides. The rest of the day was equally successful, and we eventually arrived home shortly before midnight.
