Storm
This is the scene that greeted us as we entered the car park at the Museum of Flight at East fortune, where we entertained the Flumlet today. Apparently it was a rehearsal for the figure's appearance at the Fringe By The Sea in North Berwick on the last day, 15th August.
Storm is the name given to the folklore giant who lives in the sea and is coming to draw attention to the oceans in peril due to rising sea temperatures. We watched as a photographer lay on the ground directing activity which included billowing smoke, designed to obscure the tractor from which Storm is supported.
We later met Storm at rest and were able to compare foot sizes and Storm's incredible height - see extra, with Mr Flum and the Flumlet.
We had by then enjoyed playing on the assault course and a snack - see extra 2 of the Flumlet's interpretation of managing two cherry tomatoes at once. Our intention was to visit Concorde, which entailed a forty-minute queue for our 2-minutes of a peek at the control panel and a wander down the aisle, to be followed by lunch and a 10-minute queue to re-enter the shop for a souvenir - this because the shop is at the beginning of the museum entrance instead of the end of the one-way system.
Then it was off to nearby North Berwick to play on the beach, first to catch fish in the rockpools (see extra 3), to shed our shoes and dig holes in the sand, join them into a river filled with warmed water from the pools.
On the way home we joined a queue of slow-moving traffic for 11 miles on the by-pass before the relief of our exit. I do wish we knew what caused such a long tail-back but the traffic information system was noticeably silent on the matter. A quick snack and a cartoon for him, cuppa for us and we delivered him home for his tea only a minute or so late.
