Wood ducks
The Australian Wood Duck doesn't spend much time on the water. They prefer to forage for plants and insects on land, and only take to water when disturbed. The extra is my first photograph of the duck family, grazing in the parklands alongside Lake Ainsworth. When a family of humans arrived, with kids and dog, the ducks took to the water.
In the main photo, the male leads the way. He has pale flanks, the female has speckled.
In the extra, the male is closer to the camera. The female, behind, has pale bars above and below the eye.
