Snake Vine

This attractive winter-flowering plant was growing in the forested dunes behind Angels Beach, a few km south of Lennox Head. It grows along most of the length of the Australia east coast, from far north Queensland to around the Victorian border. The botanical name is Hibbertia scandens. It is classed as a ground-cover, but will happily climb into trees. I haven't found any explanation for the common name Snake Vine. As a guess, it may refer to the twisty, sinuous (snake like?) way the stems twine through the landscape.
