Tea at the Ritz
After breakfast we walked to Russel Square Gardens. There were police everywhere cordoning off the roads because there had been a road traffic collision.
We found small independent book shop called ‘The Atlantis book shop’ . The lady owner said they had been open for 99 years and she was the third generation to run it. A chap shouted ‘morning’ as he strolled passed, the shop keeper yelled the same back, Tom, who doesn’t normally notice this sort of thing, asked her if that was Gol Wan, it was, apparently his office is close by and he knows the locals.
I’ve been waiting to have my Tea at the Ritz for 2 years now. It was a retirement present from my fellow mini dwifery colleagues back in September 2019. It had been rescheduled 4 times because of COVID. Today was the day. We arrived at 13:30 I was so excited. I won’t bore you with too many details but it was amazing. Champagne, soft neat little sandwiches with different breads and fillings. 3 petite little cakes and scones with clotted cream and jam. Not forgetting the tea, I chose passion fruit and orange, they even poured it for you. Vegan food was provided for Tom and he really enjoyed it . Even the loos were posh.
We’d pre booked a vegan restaurant for our evening meal but cancelled it because we were still full.
Tom decided he needed to mooch around a book shop. We ended up at Forbidden Planet. Amazingly he didn’t buy anything. A cigar shop was his next port of call in Covent Garden followed by as couple of glasses of Prosecco. By 20:00 we decided we might be hungry so had some small plates of food from Le Pain Quotidien.
I’ve put more photos on my Instagram account .
