The Trip
Last of the Summer Wine Skiing Trip
Day One
Half a day at the Office & I was done. No more work for 4 days. Skiing on the other hand...
After a trek across country & a scenic tour of the motorways, I arrived at Dad & Jenny's for my first pit stop. Packing was finalised, we had a filling dinner & then we set off for Stop 24 near Hythe to rendezvous with the coach & the rest of the boys also meeting there.
Pictured is most of the gang enjoying the sights & sounds of the carriage with other coach dwellers after the coach had just boarded the Eurostar, bound for Brides-Les-Bains in the French Alps via the tunnel. We uphold a yearly ritual at this exact point of all piling off the coach, popping a few corks & toasting the trip with some wine. Lovely stuff!
And once all that was said & drunk, the night was young & we had over 500 miles totaling 11 hours of road to conquer. A rather predictable & laclustre film, Unstoppable was put on, we munched on some M & M's (Dad having the lion's share, he is on a diet after all.. must be the eat as much chocolate covered peanuts in a little time as possible diet! Of course, I jest) & generally settled down to a long & not-as-uncomfortable-as-predicted-but-still-fairly-restless-sleep. Skiing first thing tomorrow!
Supplemental: I must just add, in the organised chaos of packing & getting ready today back at the flat, the internet man arrived, much to our shock & delight. He had about 15 mins in which to get the job done & he knocked it out the park! Good show internet man, even if you are at least 6 weeks late!
Right normality, off you pop for a few days, it's time to take on the mountains & carve up the slopes!.. And of course warm ourselves on a few vin chaud's on the way. Goes without saying.
