Friends came for lunch. PY prepared a slow cooked lamb and so was up early to get it in the oven and then some focaccia was baked - and decorated for summer - in advance of arrivals. It was a lovely afternoon with good company. Charlie, the dog, was also present and started the day doing what all dogs seem to do when they enter this house and run up and down the room endlessly. At some point he was barking and the neighbours’ dog also started barking. I did wonder if we would get them to be quiet because they seemed to be encouraging each other. By the end of the afternoon, just like the rest of us, he looked like he was sleeping: I did wonder if the lamb bone made him feel as lethargic as the dinner and wine made me feel. I was dozing on the sofa in the late afternoon.
We did do a couple of walks to make sure that we closed our exercise goals. The first was up the hill towards Cottenham Park. The second was to the petrol station at Wimbledon Chase. We had ordered a ‘Magic Bag’ which is a mystery collection of goodies that shops want to get rid at the end of the day. We did it a few times some years ago when we both worked in town and had some interesting items. This evening, there were some food that were at their sell by date today but we worked out we got about £18 work of product for £4. Most of it will be eaten quickly but some will be frozen. The steak sauce is the only thing that won’t freeze and, therefore, will be paired with some meatballs for tomorrow’s dinner.
