The man, the legend

As normal with these kinds of things, as soon as it became known that I occasionally take photos, I have now become official photographer of Sail & Surf. Happily, this meant me spending the morning on the rescue boat with this absolute legend, one of the kindest and most generous men I've ever met.

Andy is part of the wider SYFC support team and so was part of the group that first interviewed me eight years ago. Since then, the more I find out about Andy, the more excellent he becomes. He's so many things: a surgeon, a christmas tree producer, a sailor and and a keen axeman. He's been running these holidays since the early 90s, taking countless kids away over summer holidays. When he's not using up his annual leave to teach young people to sail and windsurf, he's probably in Nepal performing surgery and delivering babies. An absolute hero.

For Ellie and I, who have been feasting on episodes of Below Deck fairly religiously for the last few months, we are most delighted about having to throw ropes onto pontoons and shout things like 'can you get that stern line in'. It's like a dream come true.
