Conversation, and infant development

We pulled off to look at the alpacas, especially the kid.

My mind replayed a 4 year old's memory of any conversation between my mother and her mother.

And she said to me ...
Did she? And what did you say?
Well! Of course I said ...
Ooh! And what did she say?
Well then she said ....
No! Really? So what did you say?
So I said ...

And so it always continued, and a very small boy developed a serious aversion to people who.  Just.  Can't.  ****.  Summarise.

Meanwhile the kid, which we actually stopped to see, has sorted out how its front legs operate. But it's still working out what do with the other end.
