Nose Job
Walking into the bedroom last night, I kicked a lump of plastic across the floor. Picking it up, it was obvious it had broken off something - the question was, what? To me, it looked like something off the bottom of a suitcase, but all became clear this morning when Mrs C went to rearrange the sundry pillows and soft toys that grace our bed in the daylight hours. Poor old Bertie Bear was missing his nose!!
The backing piece still seemed to be fixed inside the bear, so it was surely just a case of reattaching the outer part of the nose. But it was not quite as simple as I’d hoped - the mount had actually snapped rather than just coming apart. Time to get the Araldite out. The only problem was how to keep both halves together whilst the glue set. It may not look pretty, but a quick-grip bar clamp proved to be just the job. Hopefully, when the clamp is removed tomorrow, the nose will remain firmly attached.
After all that, it was off to Barrow for another band rehearsal. Much better this week. I didn’t necessarily know any more tunes, but the ones we rehearsed were easier to pick up than last week. I wasn’t even phased by the key of one the songs I had practiced, changing from G to A - who knew I could actually transpose on the fly!
Sadly, the good mood was somewhat dampened when I got home to find a letter from the decorators advising that “due to covid” they were having to postpone our start date from 20th September to 11th October. Not so bad in isolation, but it means the carpet fitters also have to be pushed back which, in turn, means the new furniture could be landing before the decorating and carpeting is finished - not ideal!
I suppose if I can pull any positives from the situation, it is that the tiler and electrician now have an extra three weeks to get their bits done. The goal of everything being done by Christmas is still achievable - as long as we don’t get any more postponements!
