Late summer in the beech avenue

We went for a short local walk, and noted that the  foliage on the  beech trees is now looking  very dark green. How, and when,  did the transformation from bright spring green occur? Beech avenue in spring
The extra is of my current crop of sweet peas; they have done very well this year, probably because of all the rain, and because I have remembered to feed them occasionally.
Watched a great Prom on the tv tonight: Aurora Orchestra conducted by Nicholas Collon playing  Stravinsky's Firebird suite from memory, and before that pianist Pavel Kolesnikov  playing  Rachmaninov's Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini.
