Another Birthday Together
All the Amigos gathered to celebrate Padre Luís's 39th birthday; he'd managed to find a place beyond Vendas Novas, where we could eat outside and so not need vaccination certificates (he still hasn't had his second); our table was two tables separated by a small table so the numbers to a table were correct as well (see extra). We were joined by two extra Padres and another studying to be one, so that's five altogether; fascinating talking to the two Angolan ones (see extra).
Posting this the next morning; both of us were beyond tired when we got back about one this morning. We're having a few days of extreme heat (over 40°C, 104°F), but with murky sunshine, so last night our electricity ran out, and we were left without fans, let alone air conditioning. I spent the rest of the night trying to work out how we could look after our guests, knowing hotels around us were booked up - all the Lisboetas coming here for their holidays. Sure enough, but then rang our nearest one, which I'd had no hope of, and they had a flat in their annexe. So we moved the Hampsons to their air conditioned refuge for the next two hot nights (they'll come back for their last night, when it's supposed to be a bit cooler), which also means a bit more electricity for us. We turned everything off, including both fridges and I didn't even charge phone or turn on laptop, and yay, our fan lasted all night.
I'm thinking we either need more panels and batteries or will have to give in and connect to the grid...
Gratefuls:
- finding somewhere nearby with air con for our guests, felt like a miracle
- being with the Amigos again
- sleep! I'm so much happier when I've had some
