Time to Go!

The giant puffball, Calvatia gigantea, really is ready to blow now. I thought it was getting close when I removed it from the greenhouse, but I kept it out of curiosity. Progress has been slow. Today, however, it was splitting open and releasing the very fine spore. It was probably waiting for damp conditions after rain. Time to put it in a plastic bag. I don't want these huge fungi all over the place.

In large you can see the fine powdery, spongey inner part. The spots seem to be another fungus that has colonised it.
