A New Start...
I have written before about the plight of our pubs and the loss of valuable historic buildings, I hope that this story has an happy ending. The Plymouth Grove Hotel, built in 1873, was a popular landmark in the heart of a Victorian community of terrace houses. It continued to serve the Plymouth Grove area as a pub for over 120 years. Alas, as the surrounding area was redeveloped, an all too familiar story unfolded; the pub's trade disappeared and eventually the Grade II listed building was boarded up, targeted by vandals and fell into disrepair. It briefly hit the headlines in recent years when two men were convicted of using the derelict pub as a cannabis farm. Now a proposed plan to turn it into a Chinese restaurant is being considered so maybe a new beginning is on the horizon for this once grand establishment.
