It must have been wind force 5 at times and we sometimes had it against, sometimes from the side. The last part of 20 kilometres we were lucky and we had the wind at our back.
We cycled from Bakkeveen to Ruinen, as the crow flies, not that far apart. We made -ofcourse- another wide detour. It was a good day, barring the wind and the occasional rain.
The province of Friesland is mainly very flat and there are many waterways and large lakes. Peat swamps once covered most of Friesland. From the eleventh century this was mined and peat was extracted which was used as fuel. Large parts of the peat bog were excavated. I wonder what will happen if the sea gets a chance...
