fleeting blue

Photographing this flower has been difficult. Twice I've seen them and thought I would go back later and take pictures, just to never see them again. This morning I saw some and it was surprisingly hard to get it into focus. Tonight, the flowers were gone.

Ephemeral beauty.

I find it very difficult to get red or yellow flowers in focus with a manual lens. Any thoughts on how to make it easier?
