A Day on the Water

Today was a fabulous day with so many photos to choose from for blips...I have not had that dilemma in a very long time!

We woke up this morning to a wall of fog...and had our coffee down on the dock watching it gradually dissipate. It was such a still morning that everywhere we looked we could see beautiful spider webs clinging to every surface.. totally undisturbed by even a breeze. Those spiders had been ever so busy overnight!

The plan for the day was to go out to Henry's for lunch. Henry's is a very popular restaurant on Frying Pan Island at Sans Souci, famous for its pickerel fish and chips and accessible only by boat or plane.  We picked up my brother at his cottage and took our time poking around the islands in Spider Bay en route and in one little bay, came across three loons - two adults and a juvenile. What a treat! For once, I got close enough to get a decent photograph (extra). The loon with its haunting call is beloved here,  the symbol of our northern Ontario cottage country and featured on our $1 coin which of course, we call a looney! We hung out in there for quite a while just watching them...

After we had lunch at Henry's - fish and chips of course -  we wound our way back through the islands and found a great little spot to anchor and have a swim. It is times like this when I really feel old - I thought getting in and out of a canoe had become a challenge...well, it is now even harder for me to get in and out of the water via the back of the boat!  I look back fondly to the time when all of these acrobatics were easy peasy and am really grateful that my daughter and son-in-law are so patient, helpful and encouraging! That swim felt SO good..the struggle was worth it!

It was a really hot, sunny day with no breeze..so being on and in the water was the best place to be! It was the perfect plan for a perfect day.
