Coombe Abbey Hotel and Country Park

Went out for a ride in the car and decided to call in on Coombe Abbey.

Coombe Abbey is a grade 1 listed building which has now been turned into a hotel and very nice it is too.

The gardens were designed by Capability Brown.

It was founded as a monastery in the 12th century, following the dissolution of the monasteries in the 16 th century it became royal property.
Elizabeth of Bohemia( James 1 daughter) was educated here in the early 17th century and had the gunpowder plot succeeded, she was to have been abducted from Coombe abbey and proclaimed Queen Elilzabeth 2nd.

I expect there are many lonely spirits walking the corridors of Coombe abbey, maybe Roo should try ghost bustin'.
