A definite sign of Spring

On my way to the sanctuary this afternoon I stopped at the artificial island again but just like yesterday the swan would not allow me a glimpse into its nest, so I walked a little further to check on the site where the Great Crested Grebes have their nest. One of the birds was sitting on it this time and I couldn't believe my luck that it stood up for a few moments so I could take a few shots of their first egg just before I had to leave. Could it be that these bird know exactly when Spring will be here?

It was a cold day again, but at least we had some sun today and it stayed dry.
