Half inched......

A damp misty start today.
Went round the cattle then nipped along to see the field of fodder rape/ stubble turnips that I showed in mid July.
It's had a hard start, with the seed just sitting there for weeks until we got some rain. It's not looking brilliant yet. Some plants are quite well on,others are just at the tiny 2 leaf stage and the weeds are growing faster than anything else . We depend on this 30 acres of forage to feed the pregnant ewes in Jan/ Feb so will need to keep a close eye on it. There will be a very short window if it does need re sown before it is too late in the year.
Spent the afternoon attacking some of the grain bins with a brush and shovel, then started to fill some of the winter barley into the bottom of the wet grain tower as it was sitting at 16.5% moisture, just above the safe level to put in a dry bin. It's a slow job though as the conveyors were installed in 1961 and are on their last legs. Couldn't leave it alone for too long incase everything stopped and choked up. By 8pm I had the first 10ton trailer load done.More of the same tomorrow I expect.
Littlemiss back from last night's party at a long time friends down in the village none the worse for wear. Junior was away playing crazy golf this afternoon. Seemingly he beat his girlfriend- never a good idea !
Emptied the rain gauge tonight. Nearly half an inch since yesterday. Still no water in the tank though !
