St. Patrick's Day in Marseille!
Up early and into town to meet Caroline and Paddy who'd come through to Marseille the previous day to watch the rugby. Met them for a drink in their hotel lobby and then Pierre and I headed to Vallon des Auffes for some lunch at Chez Jeannot. This is me doing my best Rick Stein-esque pose outside the restaurant...the wind kinda ruined it :)
Ordered St. Pierre for mains (or John Dory as it's known in English) and it was off! I thought I just didn't like the taste of it as I'd never tried it before, but turns out that I could trust my nose as we were told later that evening that an ammonia-type taste means it's definitely past its best...thankfully I didn't eat much at all.
Got home and prepared for dinner that evening! Foie gras and champagne to start, des allouettes with polenta for mains, and homemade lemon sorbet for dessert. I had brought Fivemiletown cheese with me as a gift (imagine bringing Irish cheese to French people!!) and they loved it! Good result all round.
