Istanbul - Day 2
Well rested, we ventured out for a full day of sightseeing. Bought our tokens for the tram and took it to Eminonu, where all the ferries left. Ignored the touts offering Bosphorus cruises and did our own thing, first taking the ferry to Uskadar (hello Asia!), and then crossing the Bosphorus again (avoiding oil tankers somehow) to Besiktas. Great fun, and at less than 50p a trip a bargain.
Walked to Ortakoy from Besiktas and joined Istanbullers there for the Sunday craft market and a toasted sandwich on the waterfront, underneath the Bosphorus bridge. Sustained, we took the same route back, and took in the grand old Sirkeci station where the Orient Express used to pull in.
Tram back to Sultanahmet, buying postcards, beer and cakes from the local store, taking them upto the hotel terrace for our afternoon rest.
Dinner at Amedros restaurant, enjoying a fantastic meal, again sitting outside. Bliss.
